The capstone record

Nine sheets, and what they have in common is that each belongs to the project rather than to any one session. A lab page assesses an evening; a capstone has substances in the same cupboard for two months, streams meeting in the same waste corner, and waits that decide the schedule.

Before anything is mixed, built or exposed. CS-1 is the project plan: the picture, the instrument and the chemistry chosen against it, the materials, and the budget with a field that asks whether the subtotal is a total or a floor. CS-2 is the whole-project hazard assessment, one row per substance, with the safety data sheet’s own version and date, and a group at the foot for the four sequence hazards a page-by-page assessment cannot see. CS-3 is the waste plan and the contingency rules, written before the first bath. CS-4 is the schedule, with the eight immovable waits already printed so they go into the plan first. All four come from planning the capstone project.

During the work. CS-5 is the pinhole calculation, which the instrument stage makes mandatory for every capstone whatever the camera: the measured figures first, then the computed ones with the arithmetic shown, then the check against the negative that makes it a calculation rather than a formula.

At the end. CS-6 is the portfolio label, one copy per work, carrying the metadata that lets a reader find the negative, the printing map and the session behind the object. CS-7 is the self-assessment against the rubric, with the evidence column that the band claims stand or fall on. Both come from permanence and the portfolio. CS-8 and CS-9 are the chemistry report: the thirteen sections tracked across five checks each, then the classification key and the submission list.

Where the fields come from

Every field on these sheets is one a written page of the course asks you to record. Those pages are linked here, and the build fails if one of them stops existing.

What these sheets do not carry

  • There is no run record here, and the omission is deliberate. The negatives page states that the exposure log, the lab notebook and the curve-plotting sheets between them already carry every field a capstone run needs, and a second sheet carrying the same fields would produce two records of one run and no way to say which was right.
  • No acceptance limit or pass mark is printed on the rubric sheet. The bands are the student's own claim and the sheet's rule is the page's: a band claimed with no named evidence scores as the band below it, and that is a rule about evidence rather than a threshold about quality.
  • The budget block asks for a subtotal and for the words a floor or a total beside it, because the price file cannot price several of the capstone's consumables and names them among its gaps. A capstone budget that prints a total without saying which it is misstates the one number a reader would act on.
